Legionella Risk Assessments

Is it a legal requirement?

The Health & Safety Executive states that "all water systems require a Legionella Risk Assessment".

"It is a legal requirement to carry out an assessment to identify and assess whether there is a risk posed by exposure to legionella from the hot and cold water system".

Our experienced team are here to help you understand your duties. We can help you with completing the correct assessment for your business or premises.

Sometimes referred to as a water risk assessment, water hygiene certificate, legionella certificate or l8 certificate. A Legionella Risk Assessment is what is legally required.

We can usually attend and complete the assessment within 24 hours and produce the report on the same day.

Our Operatives are fully qualified and enhanced DBS checked.

Once the assessment has been completed, one of our Consultants can discuss the report and make sure you fully understand it.

We deliver our services nationwide.

Water Testing

When it comes to water testing, there are many different samples that can be taken to be analysed for water bacteria. We test for the specific bacteria that could cause harm:

  • Legionella Pnumophila & the various strains

  • TVC (Total Viable Counts) - General Bacteria

  • E.Coli

  • Coliforms

  • Pseudomonas

There are other specific water tests that we can carry out upon request.

Legionnaires testing or legionella testing is where water samples are taken from tap outlets within a building and analysed for legionella bacteria. When completing legionella testing it is important to ensure that a UKAS laboratory is used for the analysis process.

Water testing must be carried out inline with the health and safety executives guidance documents (HSG274). This ensures it would comply with the regulations if you were to get audited.

All water samples are analysed by a UKAS accredited labortory.

Our Operatives will attend the premises and take the water samples. They will be transported to the laboratory on the same day.

Once the results are in, one of our Consultants will interpret the results with you and provide a certificate.

Water System Cleaning & Disinfections

The risk from exposure to legionella should be controlled by keeping the water system and water in it clean and free from nutrients, including those arising from contamination and corrosion; and maintaining its cleanliness.

Hardness scale may also trap nutrients, encouraging biofilm formation and so form a barrier to disinfectants.
2.127 Where necessary, hot and cold water services should be cleaned, flushed and disinfected.

We can carry out all types of cleaning and disinfecting of water systems. Our experienced team will discuss the process and how the works are carried out and how long it will take.

All of our water system cleaning is carried out by fully qualified Operatives.

A full report will be produced including before and after photograph evidence.

A certificate of disinfection will be issued once completed.

Remdial Works

Once a Legionella Risk Assessment has been completed, there might be some remedial works that need completing in order to reduce the risks. This may include:

  • Pipework reconfiguration

  • Dead-leg/blind end removal

  • System flushing and disinfection

  • TMV (thermostatic mixing valve) replacement or servicing

  • Cold water storage tank replacement

  • Hot water system disinfection

It's important to action the recommendations that have been highlighted in the Water Risk Assessment. The risks that have been highlighted are usually rated as high, medium or low. High risk recommendations will need to completed immediately, medium within 3 months and low within 6 months.

We can help you work through the remedial works that have been recommended within the Legionella Risk Assessment. It doesn't matter if we haven't completed the Legionella Risk Assessment ourselves, we can take a look at the one you've had done.

All remedial works are carried out by fully trained and qualified Operatives.

Our detailed reports will show everything that has been completed including photographic evidence.

Once the works have been completed we will review and update the Legionella Risk Assessment free of charge (providing we completed the initial assessment.
